Birthday Gift

When a friend or a family member's birthday is fast approaching the challenge we often encounter is "Finding The Perfect Gift". It's not easy to guess what kind of gift they would  love to receive, and most of the time we are stuck trying to figure out what they want. I have the same problem when my dear friend Sam's birthday approaches. I think hard and came up with the idea to give her a make over on her special day.

Work in progress (Sam)

I love looking at her smile :)  (Happy Birthday Sam)

Nokia N8 Photoshoot

After the success of the Bohemian themed photoshoot,  Griffith Boniel the main photographer offers me another project for his blog. He was given the opportunity to obtain the innovated Nokia N8 for 2 weeks. One of his goal is to experience photography using this device and a speedlight. He wants to differentiate the result of his DSLR camera and the N8 to see what it can offer in photography. He invited me to be the HMUA (Hair & Make Up artist) and Wardrobe stylist. I was also entitled to organize that event and I end up  having "Fall of Color" as my theme, a fall inspired wardrobe with bright and unusual colors to wear on fall.
Although our country doesn't experience this type of season I still chose to have this because of the western atmosphere our location brings. It was held outside of my cousin's house at Hills Borough one of the finest subdivisions our city has.

Model: Nessie Bermudo
Stylist/Hair & Make Up Artist: Althea Dee
Theme: Fall
Location: Hills Borough
Camera Used: Nokia N8 (on the 1st and 2nd photo) & NIKON DSLR camera (on the 3rd and 4th photo)

Hair & Make Up: The model sweats a lot when exposed to extreme heat so I use a primer to help the make up last longer. I apply a light make up on her and a medium coverage foundation will do. I use a beige and silver eye shadow on her eyelids and a highlighter on her browbone, I applied a thick black eyeliner to accentuate her eyes using nichido black eyeliner and I didn't use false lashes at all only Shawill Mascara to lengthen her lashes, nude lipstick is a must to soften her look. Lastly the blush, I applied Nars Blush in pale pink.

Dress & Shoes: The dress used was a black above the knee jacket, it was classy so I mildly accessorized it, a black thin belt will add up a big difference to her look. She is wearing a denim short and brown boots.

something like this but a little bit short
Since it's a fall inspired outfit you need something to keep you warm. I use a white scarf and fold it about 3 to 4 inches width and wrap it around her. Instead of wearing it in a very common way I decided to style it differently my kind of style. Look how the scarf added some drama to her look.

Location: Hills Borough
Camera Used: DSLR camera (on the 1st photo) & Nokia N8 (on the 2nd and 3rd photo)

Hair & Make Up: The same primer was applied form the first look as well as the liquid foundation but this time Revlon pressed powder is the ideal product I used to set her liquid foundation in a swiping and dabbing motion. Purple and pink eye shadow from prestige was gently blended together and applied on her lid while the brown In2It eye shadow was applied to her crease and outer corner. The cream In2It eye shadow on her brow bone to show the division of her eye shadow from her eye brows . Thick black eyeliner is a must for this look as well as the silver eye shadow on her outer crease to brighten the eye area and to make the illusion of bigger and bolder eyes. For the blush and mascara I used Avon Mineral Blush in mauve and Shawill mascara which lengthens her lashes that you can no longer tell if she's using false lashes or not. Lastly a bright red orange luscious lipstick from Revlon in coral will dramatically toughen her look.

Dress & Shoes: I never thought that the hot pink jacket is too big for the model, I was expecting that it would fit her perfectly but instead I just go with it since I still have 3 more wardrobes left. Under the jacket she is wearing a while turtle neck sleeves form "Next" and I added a black thin belt to make the dress appear smaller. And a black tights pants from the model's own wardrobe and pink boots form "Skechers" to keep her warm.

Unfortunately guys I only have two looks to show you, the 3 wardrobes I have left was not used on the photoshoot because the photographer was so amazed of the outcome on N8 photoshoot he lost track of time and after we know it its already 6 o'clock in the evening. Still we have fun and the photoshoot was a success, the photos was incredibly wonderful. I hope you guys enjoyed reading this :)

Half Tinted Sunglasses: Accesorize

I have always been so fascinated with Mary Kate Oslen's style and captivated with her dark role in Beastly. I found these photos in Google Images, she is wearing the Chanel Half Tinted Sunglasses. I never wore and I don't recall keeping even one sunglasses in my wardrobe closet, and every time I wear some of these it makes my vision blurry and I feel a bit nausea. But when I saw these sunglasses, I was like "wow". I want this, it's so classy unique and adorable. I really want to have it, but unfortunately it's way too expensive for me, it cost about $190 to $200+ and I'm not gonna spend that much for a sunglasses which I barely use.

This photo was taken a couple of years ago
courtesy of Google Images

I found a slightly the same and cheap one from Channeling Chanel  for only 9.99$ (about 424 php) but unfortunately this item can only be bought online and they only ship on selected countries. I really want to have this sunglasses. I even ask my friend to tell his mom living in New Jersey to buy it for me. My obsession with this sunglasses isn't over yet.
Last 4 weeks ago I dropped by at Accessorize and bought one sunglasses at that time. It's not my ideal sunglasses but I was thinking that maybe I can use it sometime. It's pretty hot here in our country. Not realizing that the sunglasses I bought is actually a dark half tinted sunglasses. After I tried it on for the first time I was really amazed that I bought it similar to what I long for. The lens of the sunglasses is quite impressive, the moment I wore it I don't feel nauseous at all. Half of the lens is crystal clear and the half is semi-black tinted. This is one of my fav accessory for now. And it made me draw more attention to having a set of different sunglasses in my closet :). And now I can totally say: SUNGLASSES is a must.

A Closer look to Accessorize Half-Black Tint Sunglasses

Bohemian Collection (Part 2)

The first post of this collection is quite long and I needed to divide it into 3 parts. This is the 2 part of the Bohemian Collection. If you miss the 1st part or if you wanna take a glance and read a bit the first part click this. Enjoy.

Photographers: Griffith Boniel
Model: Nessie Bermudo
Stylist/Hair & Make Up Artist: Althea Dee
Theme: Bohemian
Location: Hills Borough
  • Make Up:
Face: Pureminerals Face Primer (to hold the make much longer), Maybelline Pure Liquid Mineral Foundation (Natural) and Maybelline Clear Smooth Shine Free Foundation (to set the liquid foundation)
Eyes: Dark blue, blue green and black copper eyeshadow + brown eyeliner
Eyebrows: Nichido eye pencil black and copper eyeshadow  + in2it pale eyeshadow in the brow bone
Lips: Avon Moisture Rich Mouse Lipstick (Nude Glow)
Checks: Mauve Blush (I use Ecotools Blush Brush to apply it evenly on her checks)
Mascara: Shawill lengthening and waterproff mascara
False lashes: YES, I put false lashes on (black)

  • Hair
I used 3 rollers to give Nessie a modern geisha hairstyle. I'm not sure why I choose this style, at that time the only thing that came up to my mind was to give her something unusual. Actually I planned to curl her hair but because it takes a lot of time to achieve the volumize curls I am aiming for end up wrapping her hair both sides and the top with rollers and hid the remaining sides of the rollers that can be seen.
(I use this exact roller)

  • Accessories:
Necklace: Vintage Peacock Eye Necklace
(something that looks like this)
Earrings: Loaled Diamond shaped
(something that looks like this, this is just a guide)
Ring: Accessorize Butterfly Facet Nugget Ring
(for a clear view click here.)
Bracelet: 2 Wooden Thin Dark Red + Golden bracelet
Belt: Oversize brown floral printed high waist belt and layered it with a black thin belt to toughen up the look
  • Dress
Summer Green Spring Collection, that is originally from my mom which she gave me 4 weeks before the photoshoot. This is simply a maxi plain dress that I accessorize to improve and for this dress to be appropriate for the theme. Any maxi dress color will do just make sure its above the knee and the dress is 2 times larger than your usual dresses. And ruffled maxi is also good for this type of look.
  • Shoes
Nessie is wearing the same shoe form the first photshoot here, A 7 inch shoe is ideal for this outfit and to match the belt as well.

Photographers: Griffith Boniel
Model: Paula Hernandez
Stylist/Hair & Make Up Artist: Althea Dee
Theme: Bohemian
Location: Hills Borough
  • Make Up:
Face: Pureminerals Face Primer (to hold the make much longer), Maybelline Pure Liquid Mineral Foundation (Natural), Maybelline Clear Smooth Shine Free Foundation (to set the liquid foundation) and Revlon Colorstay Pressed Powder (to give a brighter complexion)
Eyes: In2It waterproff eye color (ES 02 Cookie) + pale green mixed with copper black eyeshadow
Eyebrows: Light Brown eyeshadow from my friend's pallete
Lips: Avon Moisture Rich Mouse Lipstick (Nude Glow)
Checks: Rosy Cheek Blush
Mascara: Shawill lengthening and waterproff mascara
False lashes: I didn't have to put any false lashes at all using Shawill Mascara is enough
  • Hair

I did the crown braid beach hairdo that I watch in Lilith Moon Youtube channel. If you wanna know how to do this click this.
  • Accessories:
Necklace: Vintage 3 Flowers Necklace
Earrings: Green clay earrings (Paula is only wearing one on her right ear)
Bracelet: Wooden Dark Brown, Red and Green Bracelet
Headdress: DIY flower Broach (comment below if you wanna know how to make one)
Ring: White Silver Flower Ring (my sister gave it to me)
quite similar to this one, but my ring is made of textile

  • Dress
Top: My mom gave me the dress, and I rarely use it because its not the type of dress that I would usually wear. But this is perfect for her bohemian look the blue green ambiance and the feminine touch of the flowers shows Paula's fun and girly side. This is a wearable outfit, just remove the headdress and put on some skinny pants and but a braided waist belt to complete the look.

Shorts: The same shorts here, that Nessie wore on our first photoshoot. to match up the colorful headdress and top she is wearing. The shorts will help the top and her shoe to match the totality of the outfit.
  • Shoes
I bought that shoe in primadonna, at first glance I don't like it that much and it's only 3 inch tall, not ideal for me. But after I tried it on you can pair any dress with this shoe.  Because it fits any wardrobe I have or any theme I use, I paired it with her wardrobe to match the edgy pants she is wearing. Edgy + Girly always makes you stand out even if the concept of the outfit is bohemian.

This shoe somehow looks like the shoe she is wearing

      Bohemian Collection

August 30, 2011. I was waiting for this opportunity to showcase what I can offer in the field of hair styling, wardrobe styling and applying make up. A friend of mine who also happens to be one of the renowned photographer in our city invited me to have a fun photoshoot. At first I hesitated because I don't know if I can reach their expectations. But my will to gain experience convinced me to accept his offer, and I also want to know if I got what it takes, so I agreed to his proposal, he asked me to organize this photoshoot both the location and the theme. I thoroughly conceptualize what theme I am going to apply, and I came up with bohemian style. The reason why I choose to have this theme is because summer is ending and fall takes over. Bohemian can be worn in two ways either you use summer or fall style with a sweet touch of vintage and paired with rough ragged accessories and comes up with a neoteric bohemian or modern bohemian.

Eyebrows: Light Brown eyeshadow from my friend's pallete
Lips: Loreal Colour Riche Naturals Lipstick (Nude)
Checks: I didn't use any type of blush at all
Mascara: Shawill lengthening and waterproff mascara
False lashes: YES, I put false lashes on (brown)
      • Accessories:
      Necklace: Vintage Peacock Eye Necklace

Bracelet: Wooden Dark Blue, Red and Green + Vintage thin bracelet

Ring: Accessorize Butterfly Facet Nugget Ring
(for a clear view click here)
      • Dress
You can use any maxi summer dress you have. If it's plain put a flower plated belt 1 shade similar to your dress. If the dress is flower printed, accessorized with colors that is associated with your dress 2 shade darker to emphasize your accessories. If you use stripes, put a braided belt similar to any of this

and do a through the belt loop to set it up. By the way the dress I use here is a maxi summer blue floral print  dress I borrowed from my friend Ate Sheryll. Thanks ate she for lending me your dress.
      • Shoes
The shoes used by the model is hers. She bought it in people are people. According to her the shoes is 7 inches tall, this helps Paula to boost her height. Any shoes with 5-7 inches will do with a nutty and neutral look to soften the maxi dress, If your dress is dark you need to use a light and neutral shoe, dark and vintage for light maxi dress.

      Photographers: Griffith Boniel
      Model: Nessie Bermudo
Stylist/Hair & Make Up Artist: Althea Dee

      Location: Hills Borough
      • Make Up:
Goal: I want to give Nessie a neutral look to enhance her natural beauty
Face: Maybelline Pure Liquid Mineral Foundation (Natural), Maybelline Clear Smooth Shine Free Foundation (to set the liquid foundation) and Revlon Colorstay Pressed Powder (to give a brighter complexion)

False lashes: YES, I put false lashes on (black)
      • Accessories:
      Necklace: Vintage Cameo Necklace
      (something that looks like this)
      Earings: Loaled Diamond shaped
(something that looks like this, but this is just a guide)
Bracelet: 2 Wooden Thin Dark Red + Golden bracelet
      Headdress: DIY Golden Headband
Belt: Brown Braided Belt (Through the loop)
      • Dress

Shorts: Denim with a nude color pocket. The shorts Nessie used owned by Paula who also happens to bring it on the day of our photoshoot.
To match the top Nessie have I paired it with denim shorts to give an edgy look and to balance the floral dress and to incorporate with her shoes and make up.
      • Shoes
(This is just a sample picture I got from google images)

Flats is a must. Here Nessie is wearing her Summer Flats, any flats with a nude color or neutral approach will to spice up the bohemian look, flats works great with shorts. You don't need to buy the same shoes I've shown you, this is just a guide so you will have an idea what type of flats is ideal for this outfit.

      IQQU Stippling Brush

Last week was the second time I bought something in IQQU,  at that time they had a great offer that when you buy any of their products with a total of $39.99 you'll accumulate a Free Standard Global Shipping, and for me this is a good opportunity to buy the stippling brush that I needed and another set of Acne Serum. Although the amount of my purchase was only $39.98 IQQU still shipped my package for free (Thank You IQQU). And because the shipping is free I just paid for about $7 or $8 I'm not quite sure but more than half of its price.

      IQQU striping brush packing

      The IQQU Stippling Brush

Like my first package I received it at exactly 2 weeks after I ordered it online. I immediately opened the box to see and try my new brush. It was unexpected that it's not dense although it's exactly the same in IQQU Stippling Brush picture preview. I tried stroking it and just as I expected it sheds, But it didn't bother me at all it might not be as dense as the IQQU red kabuki brush but I'm pretty sure that the bristles of the stippling brush is more than it should be for possible fall outs. It's so soft and it produce an airbrush finish using a liquid foundation or bb cream, and the two tone color of the brush is pleasing and elegant to look at. It might be small but it can perform its task well. The handle is the part I like most it's made from pure luxurious ebony wood material and it's kinda heavy but I find the handle's weight appropriate for its purpose. I can use it efficiently and I never thought that having a heavier handle will help me use the tool effectively and will provide me a better result.

Comparison between my ecotools blush brush and IQQU stippling brush
They almost have the same length

A closer look of IQQU Stippling Brush Parts

      * The bristles:
      (It's frizzy but so soft)

      * The Handle:

(My fav Part of the Brush)
      * The Ferrule:

(I love the lable :) its so elegant)

The Stripping brush comes with a manual on how to clean your brush unlike my Red Kabuki Brush.

      It says:
You can choose a special detergent or mild soap mixed with extra virgin olive oil for washing and disinfecting the brushes. Rub in the cleanser gently with your hands, and then wash out thoroughly by lukewarm water.

NEVER wash the hairs in a reversed direction against hairs.
NEVER wash, or wet the ebony wood handle. To clean please wipe with dry cotton cloth.
After washing, press the hair gently with paper tissue, squeeze out the excess water and hang the brush with the bristles pointing down in natural air to dry.
DO NOT use a hair dryer and avoid any sunlight as this will damage the brush.
